Smiles are free!
A smile is one of the most simple and wonderful things in this would that helps to spread so much joy – and it’s free! In his book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” Dale Carnegie wrote: “A smile costs nothing, but creates much. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.”
Smiling is one of the very few gestures which means the same thing all around the globe meaning that you can travel anywhere in the world and communicate friendliness and happiness, simply by smiling.
Smiling is contagious
Smiling is a language that everyone understands regardless of age, race, culture, language or nationality. Scientific research has shown that smiling, or just seeing a smile, is contagious and can stimulate happy thoughts. We all know that when you smile at people, even strangers, they almost always smile back. This contagious smiling comes from a subconscious tendency to match other people’s emotions. A simple smile can have a great impact on our everyday lives.
A smile can go a long way
No matter who you are, or where you are, when you walk into a room, all eyes are on you and you are most probably being judged. By walking into your office at work, a job interview, your local supermarket or even your local bar or pub with a smile on your face, you can make a world of difference. People will smile back at you, they will be more friendly and helpful meaning that any social tension or awkwardness will dissolve, and your interactions will be more open and relaxed and maybe, even filled with fun and possibilities.
Smiling makes you more confident
Smiling releases chemicals called endorphins which trigger a positive feeling. A surge of endorphins can make you feel more self-confident.Your self-confidence may lead to other people treating you differently, helping you to build happy and positive relationships around you. This is because when you smile, you are viewed as being attractive, reliable, relaxed and sincere. Confidence may just be a simple smile away so start smiling today.
Smiling is good for your health
The release of endorphins through smiling increases blood flow and lowers blood pressure. Endorphins have many great health benefits including lowering your risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular problems so the humble smile will have you feeling good on the outside, as well as the inside!
Smiling is the beginning of laughter and laughing encourages the release of serotonin. Like endorphins, serotonin is a neurotransmitter which contributes to a person’s happiness and wellbeing. Serotonin has many positive benefits – one of which is boosting the immune system. Smiling makes your immune system stronger by making your body produce white blood cells to help fight illnesses.
